Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis

Causes of Heel Pain

Situations that make heel pain generally fall into two main categories:

  1. pain beneath the heel
  2. pain behind the heel.

Pain Beneath the Heel

If it damages under your heel, you may have one or more conditions that inflame the tissues on the bottom of your foot:

Pain Behind the Heel

If you have hurt behind your heel, this may be due to the infection of the area where the Achilles tendon meets the heel bone. This may happen due to too much running or wearing shoes that rub the heel too much. Such injury typically develops slowly over time, and the skin becomes thick, red and swollen, in this process

The plantar fascia is the deep tissue on the bottom of the foot. It joins the heel bone to the toes and creates the arch of the foot. If this tissue becomes swollen or infected, it is called plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is a general cause of pain in the heel. It is due to irritation and inflammation of plantar fascia (a long thin band that connects the heel to the front of toes and supports the arch of the foot).

Plantar fasciitis happens when the thick band of tissue on the bottom of the foot is overused. This can be uncomfortable and make walking more difficult.
Risk factors for heel plantar fasciitis include:
✔ Have foot arch problems.
✔ Run long distances, downhill or on rough surfaces
✔ Are obese or gain weight quickly
✔ Have a tight Achilles muscle
✔ Wear footwear with poor arch support or soft soles
✔ Modify your activities
✔ Plantar fascia flexibility reduces with age making it prone to wear and tear.
✔ Malnutrition, effecting the consumption of fat from cushioning fat tissue of heel.
✔ Diabetes
✔ Standing and walking work demand on a daily basis.
✔ Sudden increase in activity in the lesser active population.
✔ Flat fee
Plantar fasciitis is detected in both men and women. However, it several often affects active men ages 40 – 70. It is one of the most common orthopedic foot complaints.
Heal pain and Plantar fasciitis was commonly thought to be generated by a heel spur. However, analysis has found that this is not the case. On x-ray, heel spurs are observed in people with and without plantar fasciitis.

The most typical sign is pain and stiffness in the bottom of the heel. The heel injury may be dull or sharp. The bottom of the foot may also hurt or burn.
The pain is usually more dangerous:
✔ In the time when you take your first steps
✔ After standing or sitting for awhile
✔ When climbing stairs
✔ After strenuous activity
The pain may develop slowly, or come on quickly after extreme activity.
